Samsung's S4 caught 'optimizing' in benchmarks

Faster when benchmarked?

It would seem like the Samsung Galaxy S4, especially the one equipped with the Exynos 5 Octa processor, has some optimizations when running benchmarks in order to report a higher score.
Anandtech has a report where it was discovered that there is a special setting located in the phone's software that activates overclocking for certain applications.
This causes the Exynos 5 Octa version of the S4 to ramp up the GPU frequency from 480MHz to 533MHz, resulting in a performance boost of about 10-13 percent for certain benchmarking applications.
Another side effect of this tweak is that if certain benchmark apps are running, the CPU is forced to run at the highest possible speed, even if the app is idle. This tweak also appears on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 version.
You can find out more, including a detailed breakdown of the tests ran by the site over here.
